You love referrals, right? We all do, but here's something interesting. According to my own research in 123 different industries, less than 15% of all businesses actually have a formal referral marketing program.
Unbelievable. Let's just look at IMTS and how referrals can impact your success.
I'm going to assume you're already inviting all of your current and past customers to visit your booth this year, right? If you're like me, you've planned out a three or four step campaign -- a personal letter, a greeting card, a fax, and an email, for example. In each of these you're giving solid reasons from the target's perspective, of course, why it would benefit them to stop by.
Now what if you added a small incentive? What if you said something like: "How would you like to get an easy $250 discount off your next order? All you have to do is introduce us to one of your friends at IMTS. That's all you have to do. Bring them by our booth #XXXX. Introduce them to me or one of our other happy salespeople and you'll get $250 credit!"
Obviously, the amount and the wording can be different, but I hope you get the idea. Don't put restrictions. Don't say, "...and if they order you'll get the discount..." That will kill the incentive. You're looking for LEADS at IMTS and what better way to find a lot of quality leads than through onsite REFERRALS from your current customers?
