Reshoring contributed 10% of manufacturing job growth in recovery. Report your cases before IMTS!

August 10, 2012

Reshoring created about 50,000 manufacturing jobs in the last few years, about 10% of the 495,000 manufacturing job additions since the low in January 2010. You can help document and accelerate this trend by reporting cases. Since reshoring is a hot topic, the media at IMTS will pick up the best reshoring cases, resulting in added publicity for your products and your customers, both contract manufacturers and OEMs.

Reshoring occurs in a broad range of products and industries. Contract manufacturers such as Wright Engineered Plastics in Santa Rosa, CA and Ace Clearwater Enterprises of Torrance, CA. have brought work back for their customers. Some of the largest reported OEM reshorings include: Ford with about 6,000 jobs, Caterpillar about 1,400 and Farouk Systems with1,000. Even some consumer electronics and apparel are returning.

In the May 23, 2012, IMTS Insider we presented the Manufacturing Technology Drives Reshoring program. The idea is to get industry and national publicity for you and for your customers who are using your products to make U.S. or North American manufacturing competitive enough to bring work back from offshore.

Submit your cases and make them eligible for IMTSTV and for my IMTS presentations to the morning crowds on the Manufacturing Stage between the North and South Halls. We urge you also to post the cases in your booth and on your website. We look forward to helping promote your successes!
