America's best-selling line of Face Drivers

America's best-selling line of Face Drivers

In fact, Riten outsells all U.S.-based competitors combined. Demand is growing as customers discover the versatility and unique advantages of face driving for turning and grinding operations.

Chucking a part is standard procedure in most shops, but there are two concerns. First, the part must be reversed (double-ended) to complete the machining of the end gripped by the chuck jaws. Even when expertly done, this re-chucking can lead to diminished concentricity and taper in the part. Second, double-ending and changing chuck jaws increases non-productive down time, particularly when smaller batches with differing part diameters require frequent setups.

Rather than clamping onto the surface to be machined, a face driver locates on the end face of the part. Chisel-edged drive pins penetrate the end face while a center point locates the part on center. This permits machining of the entire surface in a single operation. Concentricities as accurate as .0004 to .0008" TIR can be obtained, and the quick setup times increases productivity.

Face Drivers not only support a workpiece, but also can position it, using the indexing function of the machine spindle. In turning applications with live tooling, the part can be machined, then stopped to allow drilling of holes, milling of slots and similar tasks, all in a single operation.

Riten leads the industry for a number of reasons:
• Extensive selection:
Eleven mechanical models and five hydraulic designs means you can choose a driver for virtually any application.

• Choice of installation methods:
Every model can be mounted by Morse taper, direct mounted on the spindle, or chucked.

• Special application models:

Riten Industries is the world’s largest manufacturer of live & dead centers and face drivers. Standard products number in the thousands, with guaranteed accuracies as high as ± .00004 TIR. Models are available to handle workpiece weights from 2 oz. to 200,000 lbs., and at speeds up to 6,000 rpm.

Precision workholding products have been the company’s only business since its founding in 1933 in south-central Ohio. The family-owned and operated business has expanded its facilities and capacity many times, investing heavily in state-of-the-art production and testing equipment.

Custom specials are a key segment of Riten’s business. The “Design Your Own” page on www.riten.com allows customers to specify dimensions and operating parameters to create centers for unique applications.

Riten also offers a growing line of custom engineered workholding products, including live chuck mandrels, replaceable bell head live and dead centers, live and dead bull ring mandrels, linear compensating centers, pipe drivers, spider mandrels, and tailstock quills.

Services include a generous repair/trade-in program on both Riten centers and competitive products, and an in-plant center survey and inventory report, free to qualified customers. A growing number of customers rely on Riten for repair and rebuilding of tailstocks and spindles, and on-site inspection, qualification and balancing of all types of manual and CNC lathes and grinding machines.
