Tools for Micro-Turning
Carbide inserts from the S274 system with the high-precision "µ-Finish", specially designed to machine extremely small precision parts.
Precision grinding processes applied to the “µ-Finish” inserts guarantee a repeatable center height of ± 0.0025 mm (± .0001”). Each cutting edge is inspected under 200x magnification as an additional quality control measure. This attention to detail ensures that once the tool has been set-up, no further height adjustments are required when replacing a worn insert.
The micro-grain carbide structure and specially designed geometries are well suited for machining steels, stainless steel and brass. A new coating type AC25 (developed for micro turning, grooving, and parting-off applications) resists wear and build-up of material on cutting edges.
High-precision “µ-Finish” inserts reduce production costs related to downtime and increase process reliability with maximum precision.
S100 cutting inserts with internal cooling
The versatile S100 grooving system can now be used in even more applications thanks to new cutting inserts with a 3 mm (.118”) grooving width and internal coolant supply for effective cooling of the cutting zone. The through coolant port supplies fluid directly to the cutting zone and ensures optimal cutting conditions. The nozzle shape guarantees a targeted jet of coolant, which supports chip formation and reduces the risk of chip build-up. This also considerably reduces the risk of build-up edge forming and means less wear on the cutting edge. Compared with conventional cooling systems, this system allows for higher cutting parameters as well as improved durability.
With hard-to-cut materials in particular, the carbide grade AS45 and the EN geometry shape with chip former also permits good chip flow with long tool life and process reliability, even during long engagement times and at high temperatures. The square holders with internal coolant, which come in left and right hand versions, are available in metric and inch sizes. The screw clamp or self-locking mechanism can accommodate a groove depth up to 40.5 mm (1.595”).
