In Booth Presentation: An innovative optical system for particle detection in technical cleanliness assessment

This talk introduces the patented system used in the OLYMPUS CIX series for fast determination of metallic and non-metallic particles. Technical cleanliness assessment is now a major monitoring tool for helping ensure the total quality of parts and components in the automotive industry. Different kinds of particles will be discussed as well as a full presentation of the OLYMPUS CIX system’s philosophy. Finally, we will present the benefits of using such equipment in today’s production area.

This system was designed using 20 years of experience in the field of particulate contamination. We will explain the features that make this system the most advanced system on the market. We will also present the results of a study conducted in our laboratories to assess the repeatability and the reproducibility of the system. We will also demonstrate the precision of the OLYMPUS CIX series and how the use of a particle standard device can be beneficial for the validation of technical cleanliness measurements in the context of international standards.

The Verband der Automobilindustrie (VDA) is the German automotive manufacturer association and is very active in the field of technical cleanliness of functional parts and components. This organization recently issued new recommendations for the proper evaluation of technical cleanliness under chapter 19 (VDA 19.1 and VDA 19.2). In this talk, we will compare the newly issued recommendations from VDA19 to the existing standard ISO16232 and demonstrate how these recommendations can be fully applied by using the OLYMPUS CIX technical cleanliness inspection system. We will also introduce the steps necessary to prepare a good filter membrane.
