The Reshoring Initiative has released its 2025 Reshoring Survey Report, offering fresh insights into the evolving landscape of U.S. manufacturing. This year’s survey expands its focus beyond OEMs to highlight the critical role of contract manufacturers (CM) in reshoring efforts. It dives deep into the decision-making processes behind reshoring and explores what more is needed to accelerate the trend. Key findings include: The top challenge cited by respondents is the manufacturing workforce – specifically, the skills gap and labor shortage, surpassing concerns like tariffs, deregulation, and taxes. While most OEMs report satisfaction with their reshoring progress, only 30% use Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) analysis in sourcing decisions. Proximity to engineering resources emerged as the top priority for reshoring. A majority of CMs surveyed have already reshored or are actively quoting reshoring projects, particularly for components used in U.S.-assembled products. There’s still time to be recognized! OEMs and CMs can apply for the 2025 National Metalworking Reshoring Award. The deadline for submissions is June 30, 2025.
