When manufacturing professionals across the world gather at IMTS – The International Manufacturing Technology Show 2018 in Chicago’s McCormick Place, Sept. 10-15, 2018, they’re going to find a lot to love about IMTS! Here are just five reasons:

  1. IMTS 2018 is on track to be one of the busiest and biggest shows ever!
“With the U.S. manufacturing sector expanding at its fastest pace since 2004 and capital equipment investment likely to follow, we anticipate that IMTS 2018 will be one of the busiest shows ever,” says Peter R. Eelman, Vice President – Exhibitions & Business Development at AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology, which produces IMTS. Read more about what the growing economy means for IMTS 2018 and its expanded venues in a recent IMTS 2018 press release.

IMTS 2018 numbers are ahead of the previous show numbers! As of January 1, 1,803 exhibitors have secured a total of 1,307,230 square feet of exhibit space. (IMTS 2016 included 1,455 exhibitors occupying 1.27 million square feet at this time in 2016.)

The increase in square footage isn’t just due to more exhibitors, but also to the addition of E Hall in the East Building. E Hall will house the Machine Components, Cleaning and Environmental Pavilion, the Controls, CAD-CAM, Software Annex, and part of the HANNOVER MESSE USA exhibits.
  2. IMTS 2018 offers seven co-located conferences!
Visitors can attend educational sessions to gain knowledge and insight to prepare for the future. The largest and longest running of these is the IMTS Conference. Other important sessions that are held during the week of the show are organized by some of the leading manufacturing thought leaders in the country. They include:
    • Additive Manufacturing Conference – presented by Gardner Business Media
    • Applied AM-EOS Additive Day – presented by EOS North America
    • GAMS (Global Automation Manufacturing Summit) – presented by HANNOVER MESSE, USA
    • Integrated Industries – presented by HANNOVER MESSE, USA
    • Industrial Laser Conference – presented by Laser Institute of America
    • Top Shops Workshop – presented by Gardner Business Media/Modern Machine Shop
  3. IMTS 2018 is expanding the Additive Manufacturing Pavilion!
To be housed in the West Building, the expanded Additive Pavilion represents the growing number of companies that are creating additive machines and making innovations in the technology’s materials, processes, and solutions. See a list of the IMTS 2018 Pavilions.
  4. For the first time ever, there will be two Emerging Technology Centers.
The original AMT Emerging Technology Center (ETC) will remain at the entrance to the North Building and highlight digital manufacturing technologies to help manufacturers transform effectively in the digital industrial revolution. A second ETC will be in the West Building, adjacent to the Additive Manufacturing Pavilion, and focus on the latest 3D technologies and trends in manufacturing.
  5. Neighborhood enhancements are finished at McCormick Place, the home of IMTS 2018.
Visitors to IMTS 2018 will encounter sparkling new buildings, including a new Marriott Marquis hotel and Wintrust Arena, more restaurants and food options, updated transportation stations, and less “construction” in the McCormick Place neighborhood. For more details, maps, and photos, watch Peter Eelman’s presentation, McCormick Square: A New Neighborhood.
