Miles for Manufacturing (M4M) 5K Run/Walk
100% of participant & sponsor fees are donated!
The Miles for Manufacturing 5K Run/Walk returns to IMTS on Wednesday, Sept. 12, at 6:30 a.m.
A popular and energizing early morning event
M4M takes participants on a scenic route down Lake Shore Drive and loops around for a total of 3.1 miles. Participants and sponsors agree it’s a great start to their day especially because those dedicated to the industry come together knowing that 100 percent of participant fees and donations go directly to programs for education in manufacturing technology!
Show your company spirit
Many companies embrace M4M to build extra company spirit into their busy IMTS week. Participants can organize teams to run or walk in the M4M and win awards for the largest, most enthusiastic, best costume and more.
Since its inaugural event at IMTS 2014, IMTS has and continues to cover all the costs of producing the event from timing gear, banners, and logistics to packet slips, shirts, and bibs. GIE Media* takes care of the management and personnel resources.
Help prepare students for careers in manufacturing technology
In just under four years, M4M has donated cash and equipment to programs that prepare students for careers in manufacturing technology including STEM schools. M4M also takes place at conferences and meetings hosted by AMT ─ The Association For Manufacturing Technology, the owner and operator of IMTS. Proceeds are donated to similar programs in these cities.
Proceeds from the September 12 M4M event are slated to support FIRST® Illinois robotics teams, FIRST® Indiana robotics teams, the Chicago Pre-College Science and Engineering Program, and STEM middle schools in the Chicago Public School System (CPS) among others. Donations are distributed by Smartforce Development at AMT.
M4M 5K comes from humble roots
In 2013, during a manufacturing conference in Cincinnati, a handful of people looking for fresh air and a break from the “70 and florescent weather” returned from a run and were greeted by envious peers. All decided a run/walk should be scheduled at the next event, IMTS 2014.
