Innovations in Action
Find grounbreaking technologies at IMTS 2018
Having the right tool makes all the difference. That simple principle has never been truer. Developments in turning, clamping and data sharing are making machining easier and more efficient.
For the first time this year, IMTS is recognizing the incredible innovations displayed on the show floor. The Exhibitor Product Innovation Competition celebrates exhibitors with the newest—and most groundbreaking—manufacturing technology available today.
1st Place, Gold: Sandvik Coromant Silent Tools™ Plus
All manufacturers want to improve cycle times and decrease machine downtime. Sandvik Coromant Silent Tools™ Plus is an innovative suite of tools offering anti-vibration capabilities and valuable insight into the machining process. This means improved decision making, enhanced part quality, decreased waste, better machining performance, and longer insert tool life.
Silent Tools™ Plus include tool holders for turning, milling and boring designed to minimize vibrations using a passive mechanical damper inside the tool body. The Plus line of tools also features sensors that monitor tool deflection, cutting forces/tool load and temperature in real time and report information to operators on a user-friendly tablet.
In addition to the Silent Tools™ Plus line, Sandvik Coromant will be offering a range of engineering solutions and technical expertise at IMTS 2018. Stop by Booth #431510 and see how this pioneering company can help you shape the future of your company.
Sandvick Coromant will be hosting several special events during IMTS, including presentations on the connected machine shop at the Smart Manufacturing Hub and during the IMTS Conference. Representatives from Sandvick will also be featured on the Women in Big Data panel at the Digital Transformation Conference and the Supply Chain panel during the Top Shops Workshop.
2nd Place, Silver: OTT-JAKOB Power-Check Magazine
The PowerCheck Magazine fully automates pull-in force measurements. It reduces production waste, tool wear, spindle damage, machine downtime, and safety risks by monitoring clamping force on the tooling. The revolutionary device makes it possible to identify a loss of clamping force at an early stage—before it becomes a problem.
When incorporated into a regular preventative maintenance schedule, The Power-Check Magazine can improve machining quality, machine availability, and process reliability. “The OTT-JAKOB Power-Check Magazine is a major step towards the implementation of Industry 4.0 in the field of production and helps to achieve highest quality standards,” says Mr. Josef Greif, Research and Development Director at OTT-JAKOB.
OTT-JAKOB is a leading manufacturer of automatic tool clamping systems for machine tools. For more than 37 years, Advanced Machine & Engineering has been the exclusive North American partner of OTT-JAKOB.
In addition to the PowerCheck Magazine, the Advance Machine & Engineering Booth – 121117 will feature 3D models of a contact face sensing system (PLANKO), a distance measurement system (MSU), and some HSK grippers. The booth will also feature spindle shafts, rotary unions, grippers, and pulling heads, as well as the manual version of the PowerCheck Magazine, the PowerCheck 2.
