Meet Bill Herman, IMTS Team Member
Category: AMT • Feb 11, 2019
With 30 years of experience managing tradeshows and events large and small, in dozens of industries, and in 21 countries including Cuba, Bill Herman has gained a broad perspective on how people connect and what makes an event relevant to both the visitor and the exhibitor.
As the Director of International Exhibitions and Sponsorships at AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology*, Bill coordinates logistics for American manufacturing technology companies exhibiting abroad, the IMTS Conference and sponsorships for AMT events such as the Miles for Manufacturing 5K Run/Walk. During the week of IMTS, Bill hosts Shop Talk on IMTSTV and interviews editors who cover the automotive, medical and construction manufacturing beat.
Always on the go with stories to tell, Bill stopped by the IMTSTV studios to give the run-down on his recent three-week trip to India where he oversaw for the fourth time the AMT/USA Pavilion at IMTEX 2019, India’s premiere machine tool show held in Bangalore, January 24-30.
“I love visiting India. The people are very gracious, there is an incredible variety of food and music, and the weather in January is warm and dry. I love the way Indians greet each other with long handshakes,” says Bill. “Since my first trip in 2013, India has experienced a rapid rise in manufacturing sophistication. You could feel the excitement of the widening market during the show.”
When asked what person or experience prepared him most for his international career, Bill recalls the friendly, hardworking and fun people of Oconomowoc, Wis., the closest town to the cattle farm where he was raised. These traits are key on the international scene. Bill often serves as a bridge between U.S. business leaders and host-country partners. With his humor and empathy for others, Bill can easily diffuse the stress and accelerate friendship and trust among strangers.
Bill is passionate about manufacturing where he finds “genuine people dedicated to their families, businesses, and communities.” He enjoys orchestrating connections among people and executing complex events.
“It's such a big world. I'm lucky to see the many ways people do things,” says Bill. “My work, like manufacturing, is always changing ... with new approaches, new shows, new venues, and new partners. It never gets old.”
“Bill is a tremendous asset to our team with his international experience, business acumen and get-it-done attitude. His sense of humor and infectious laugh keep the team in the exhibitions department smiling even in the busiest and most stressful times,” said Peter Eelman, AMT VP – Exhibitions and Business Development.
Currently Bill is organizing AMT Pavilions for China and Brazil's largest manufacturing trade shows.
To unwind and relax, Bill spends time with his wife Leititia, and son Tristan. Together they delight in entertaining family and friends in their Maryland home.
