The manufacturing renaissance is upon us according to Greg Scheu, President for the Americas at ABB. Scheu talked to IMTSTV at the 2015 Hannover Messe Press Conference in Chicago about taking advantage of this technology driven renaissance.

“We’ve seen a definite move where more and more manufacturing has been coming back to the U.S.,” explains Scheu. ABB especially has made huge expansions to their U.S. operations, notably the expansion of their robotics factory just outside of Detroit, Mich. This factory houses the first industrial made robot and the facility is continuing to utilize advancements in technology to grow specifically in the U.S. market. The United States has the largest economy in the world, with steady growth in our GDP the United States is becoming a better and better place to manufacture and drive quality using leading technology.

The power and automation industry is continuing to grow both internationally and domestically as we see an increase in digitalization of the power grid. Renewable energy technology coupled with increased energy consumption around the world is causing massive changes to happen. With these unique changes comes a need to drive workforce development and interest in manufacturing with the up and coming generation. The steady increase in advanced technology and innovation happening today is making the manufacturing industry an exciting field for young people to enter into. With a revival happening in an industry that has been around for a long time, we’re entering a whole new field of possibilities looking toward the future.
