IMTS Exhibitors and Others Donate $4,500 to STEM Programs
Category: Smartforce • Apr 3, 2020
Despite the cancellation of the April 2, 2020, Miles for Manufacturing (M4M) 5K Run/Walk in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., its sponsors insisted their donations still be used for programs that prepare students for careers in manufacturing technology.
“We are truly heartened by the generosity of our industry,” says Bill Herman, AMT Director – International Exhibitions & Sponsorships. AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology (the owner and operator of IMTS – The International Manufacturing Technology Show). “Especially when so many extracurricular activities are being cancelled, the support that our M4M sponsors provide to these school programs is timely and appreciated.”
The two school programs receiving these donations include:
- $4000 to the Atlantic Technical College and Technical High School to support the materials budget for their Additive Manufacturing 3D Professionals Club. Once schools are back in session, this donation will provide the materials students need to engage and learn from additive technology.
- $500 to Team 135 Black Knights FIRST® Robotics Team to support team mechanical technology investments. Even though FIRST Robotics has suspended the season and the FIRST Robotics National Championship in April has been cancelled, teams rely on support from corporate sponsors and mentors to operate programs.
With the $4,500 raised for the Florida event, M4M has raised nearly $97,000 since its inception at IMTS 2014. Every dollar is distributed to schools and programs that prepare young people for a career in manufacturing and design.
Walk or Run in the M4M 5K
The next M4M 5K Run/Walk will be held on Wednesday, September 16th, during the week of IMTS 2020, September 14-19, 2020, in Chicago, Ill.
