I did a survey of my BFFs a couple of years ago, where I asked, “Let’s talk about referrals. What percentage of your business comes from referrals?” I got a few thousand responses to this, and it turned out that an average of 45.15% of a company’s business comes from referrals. Wow - almost half!
But the follow-up question I asked was, “Do you have a formal referral strategy?” and 73.2% said “no”. Next question, “Okay, why don’t you have a referral strategy?” The number one answer was, “Because asking for referrals is very uncomfortable.”
