Where is Olli Now?
The excitement of Olli, the self-driving electric shuttle bus from Local Motors, continues. Showcased at the IMTS Ride Experience during IMTS 2016, Olli gave driverless rides to hundreds of IMTS visitors and is now travelling quite a bit for events.
In full swing, the Olli road show just attended IBM's World of Watson where it demonstrated its vehicle cognitive capabilities. On November 16, Olli will be at Automobility LA, a part of the LA Auto Show, to join Local Motors Co-founder and CEO John B. Rogers, Jr. for his keynote address. From there, Olli will head to the Local Motors Knoxville microfactory for a bit for continued testing and engineering work.
Local Motors’ goal for Olli is to have several pilot programs operating throughout the United States and even Europe by the first part of 2017. For now, those locations will be Miami-Dade County, Florida; Las Vegas, Nevada; National Harbor, Maryland; Berlin, Germany; and Denmark.
Designed to make transportation pleasant and even joyful, Olli could help solve the first and last mile challenges with transportation, reducing gas-powered vehicle congestion in compact urban areas and giving campuses, planned retirement communities, and heavily populated cities the power of safe, smart, sustainable mobility.
An open company that thrives on community involvement and engagement, Local Motors welcomes visitors to its three locations:

Local Motors debuted Olli at the grand opening of its new microfactory at National Harbor, Md., just a few miles from Washington, D.C. Born out of the company’s community challenge to develop an intelligent vehicle for use in urban areas, Olli is a self-driving shuttle that allows riders to set pickup and destination locations through an app and acts as an “on-demand” version of public transportation. “Olli’s technology is ideal for urban environments or places like National Harbor where you have many places to connect, such as from convention centers to hotels,” said Local Motors Chief Financial Officer Jean Paul Capin.
“Olli is sleek, comfortable, and super high-tech,” said Peter Eelman, Vice President - Exhibitions & Business Development. “And could it be a possibility that Olli takes IMTS visitors from their downtown hotel to McCormick Place for IMTS 2018?”
At Local Motors, CEO Jay Rogers explained how the company is turning conventional business models on their head and re-thinking the potential of self-driving vehicles. The IMB Watson-equipped Olli not only interacts with passengers in a conversational language, Rogers also envisions a future where Olli can run errands (“Hey Olli, meet me at the corner of 5th and Main with my dry cleaning at 5:15 p.m.”).
